What is Personal Project Direct Editing?
Personal project direct editing is a convenient option for those wanting personal material edited without having to worry about grammar or vocabulary, or needing to attend a class and purchase expensive textbooks to understand difficult grammar concepts. What materials do you accept for personal project direct editing?
We accept any personal correspondence, including letters, notes or notices for personal use, writing practice designed to improve English, and any other form of personal written communication not intended for professional or academic use.
What materials will you not accept for personal project direct editing?
Because of the confidential/sensitive nature of many professional projects, we will not accept materials intended for professional use. In addition, although we understand the importance of writing quality term papers and essays, we cannot accept academic projects for direct editing.
How do I submit a project for direct editing?
After signing up for an ESLanywhere.com account, you can submit a direct edit request using the form provided on the member page.
What happens when I submit a direct edit request?
We will review your edit request and will edit the first page for free. You will be notified that we have reviewed and made initial edits to your project. You will be given password-protected access to our server where you may download your edited file.
What can I expect when I receive my edited project?
We base our direct editing service on the assumption that students are interested in complete edited projects without needing to correct grammar, vocabulary, style, or tone themselves. Therefore, your project will be edited without comments or other markings. The project you receive from us is the project you can present to others.
What if I have questions about my personal project?
If you ever have questions about edits made to your project, just ask! We are happy to answer questions about direct editing, either before or after you request the editing. You are also welcome to chat with other students in the chatroom or visit and comment on our forum.
What is the professional and academic guided editing service?
Professional and academic guided editing is an editing service provided for professional and academic projects, including:
- Professional correspondence (CV’s, resumés, cover letters, letters of interest, memos, etc)
- Academic projects (essays, term/research papers, short writing assignments, proof-reading, etc)
How do I request guided editing?
First, you should complete our brief language survey, which helps us understand your specific language ability. You can then sign up for an account and schedule an individual lesson from the member page. Once you have scheduled your lesson and have completed your payment on the next screen, we will send you an e-mail notifying you that we have received your lesson request and providing further instructions.
Why is the language survey important if you are only helping me edit my project?
It can be confusing to work with the grammar, structure, and vocabulary of a second language, especially if you have difficulty speaking or listening to the language. Also, people naturally have specific strengths and weaknesses in their learning. If we understand you are very confident in your speaking ability, we can provide guided editing by talking with you. If you do not feel as confident in your speaking ability, we can work with you through writing. If we understand that you are confident in your speaking ability, but have some difficulty understanding the language when it is spoken by native speakers, we will be prepared and can adapt the way we speak to easily and accurately communicate with you. If we understand that you have certain interests and goals, we are able to help you use them in your project when appropriate.
What happens during guided editing?
During guided editing, we work with you on an individual basis to help you edit your project so your message is delivered clearly and appropriately. We work with you to improve the writing style, tone, the vocabulary, and the general structure and grammar. We provide recommendations and advice, but we do not provide lengthy complicated grammar explanations. We base this editing service on the assumption that the student requesting the editing service wants assistance with editing, not a grammar lesson.
How does guided editing actually work?
We provide lessons through Skype, a free voice and text chat program available at www.skype.com. Using this program, we can assist you with your project using both voice chat and text. You are able to see exactly how we recommend you correct your project as a result.
Do you ever see my actual project?
Because professional and academic projects are often confidential or sensitive by their very nature, we will never ask to see your project directly. You may share your project with us if you like, but it is not necessary. Instead, we recommend students copy and paste portions of their project into the Skype chat window if they would like us to look at a section directly. We can then make editing recommendations based on the text you have provided, and no confidential or sensitive information is exchanged unnecessarily.
What if I have questions about my guided editing project?
If you ever have questions about the guided editing lesson you have paid for, just ask! We are happy to answer any questions about guided editing either before you commit or after you have already purchased your lesson. You are also welcome to join the chatroom or talk with other students on our forum.
